The scholar's workstation. Full-text databases on the desktop. The Internet. Distance learning. Self- and remote checkout. Patron-initiated interlibrary loan. The shift from the physical to the virtual. No longer are libraries the sole or direct source of information. No longer can librarians sit in their "ivory libraries" and expect information users to come to them. The speaker will challenge librarians to market their resources and services like a business and will discuss some of the challenges and possibilities inherent in this shift from a reactive to a pro-active customer focus.
