Information Professionals and Evidence Based Medicine

Evidence based medicine appeared cca ten years ago. EBM, highlighting above all application of clinical studies' results, invokes both enthusiasm and scepsis among physicians. It changes not only the way they think and practice medicine, but the way they handle information resources as well. The main role in their creation is played by The Cochrane Collaboration, an organization of volunteers that are engaged in composing metaanalyses and systematic reviews of clinical trials. Although most of them are physicians it does not mean, that information professionals cannot play an active role in the process of implementing EBM in praxis. On the contrary, their knowledge and experience will be highly useful
