Current Posibilities in Digitizing Rare Documents

This paper compares requirements for digitization for cataloging and documentation purposes to those on digitization aimed at providing access to a virtual representation of the original document. Practical examples of digitized documents will be used to compare digital technologies, especially commercially available digital cameras, studio camera scanners and the specialized digitizing laboratory in the Czech National Library. The example of digitizing for the Czech National Gallery shows unique features of this laboratory equipment and also reports on practical experience in high-fidelity printing.
