The Czech News Agency has produced a database on the European Union since the
year 2000. The database contains all important information sources on the EU, it is a joint product of the CTK
documentary, home, foreign, economic, infographic and picture desks. Every user can thus gain access to the
characteristics of the EU bodies and authorities including the Internet addresses, there is chronology of EU relations
with the Czech Republic and some other countries, a chronology of the main events in the Union, fundamental documents of
European communities or the European Union including main documents concerning the enlargement of the Union,
characteristics of the above documents (processed by CTK editors), basic economic and political data on the member and
candidate countries, public opinion polls relating to the Union, biographies of the key EU personalities, EU finances,
data on the European Monetary Union (including photos and infographics), funds and programmes of the Union, a dictionary
of EU enlargement and the latest news concerning EU developments. The advantage in creating the product is the presence
of experienced foreign correspondents of CTK right in Brussels. Some documents are in the original English
version. CTK also produces and daily updates further Documentary databases, including Countries of the World,
World events, Czech Republic, Regions in the Czech Republic, Anniversaries, Biographies and an extensive reference
database Sports. Namely libraries staff will know three of them – Countries of the World, Czech Republic and
Biographies, because since September 2002 they have been able to use them within the VISK programme.
CTK also meets individual clients´ requests for being sent current news during the day which is of interest to the
client. The corresponding news is sent to the e-mail addresses stated by the user. All agency´s news products are
also accessible via the Internet at www.ctk.cz. |
