Abstract

This report addresses new possibilities that have arisen due to the booming area of e-learning. Originally, medical libraries were offering basic services such as fund accessing and information transmission by lending, by reprographic services or by classical recherché. Nowadays, modern methods provide the use of electronic databases that help us to work much more effectively with all types of information. Moreover, information can be easily transmitted in a digital form. Thus, present-day library may become the centre for providing the e-learning applications. This report demonstrates a concrete practical example for the e-learning exploitation in the case of the transformation of the Scientific Medical Library IKEM which was related to the moving in the new, modern conceived rooms. An important component of the newly provided services is that the library is equipped with modern information and communication technologies such as wireless connection (WiFi). Multimedial study room which is also a part of the library presents another significant support of the e-learning. The authors of the report will demonstrate some practical results of e-learning from the project “Educational and informational portal IKEM - Prague” that is in the present day in its implementation phase.
