Usage Statistics - a Publisher's Perspective

Autor: Jackie Cahoon, Wiley-Blackwell, United Kingdom

Fulltext

Abstract:

Usage statistics are an invaluable tool in learning about your users' reading preferences. With the widespread adoption of the COUNTER code of practice, they even allow comparisons between different vendors. Yet although "the numbers" appear completely objective there are a number of - trivial and not-so-trivial – considerations when evaluating usage data. This presentation gives one publisher's view of customer usage analysis and also presents how usage analysis impacts publisher policies, practice and pricing.

About author:

Jackie Cahoon is Regional Sales Director for Central Europe and the Middle East for Wiley-Blackwell. She has worked for 10 years in the publishing industry, though trained and worked as a librarian in the UK.
