Abstract

FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint offers a new choice in enterprise search. Combining the power of FAST with SharePoint, FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint delivers Microsoft's best general productivity search experience and a platform for building search-driven applications. FAST search platform is a semantic search platform that is being developed by FAST – a Norwegian company that was recently acquired by Microsoft. This platform can be used to build custom search systems and search applications in a variety of areas ranging from internal enterprise search to web facing public site search. It is a packaged product with great documentation and support. Currently, it is considered to be a market leader in enterprise search and in knowledge management areas. FAST is called „semantic search platform“, because it includes advanced linguistic and natural language processing technics like: language detection, entity extraction, document classification (supervised and unsupervised), lemmatization and synonyms, phonetic search, similarity search, categorized search.
