Abstract

The first discovery system implemented in the Czech Republic was funded by the project „The University IT for Education and Research – UNIT“, (registration No. CZ.1.05/4.1.00/04.0134), within the frame of the Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovations. The system Primo provided by ExLibris has become the winner of the open tender. This discovery system was launched at the University of Pardubice (hereinafter UPa) on October 1, 2012. The paper describes the eight-month period from the contract agreement, through the Primo implementation and testing to the contemporary full operation. Starting August negotiations with the supplier, the Multidata company, were focused mainly on creation of the local index (i. e. indexing of the OPAC records, the Digital Library of the UPa records and full texts), the central index optimization for the university environment (i. e. activation of the electronic information resources subscribed by the UPa, connection with the link resolver 360 Link), including Primo into the university infrastructure (i. e. visual design, authorization and authentication, Shibboleth, relation to the Reader’s Account in the OPAC). The add-ons „bX Hot Articles“ and „Altmetrics“ were embedded during the testing period. The paper deals with the steps of the process, removed obstacles and gained experience as well. Last but not least, the promotion forms (i. e. news in the employee and student intranet, comics strip, Facebook, articles published in the UPa Journal), first reactions and the feedback from the user training are also mentioned. The six-month service of Primo has generated interesting usage data. The usage analysis aimed at the search statistics, the hourly search statistics, the top searches and the top searches with no results is carried out in the end of the paper.
