Abstract
Scholarly German speaking libraries have increased the usage of their library catalogues in 2012 by 60 million by expanding the terminology space with tables of contents. HEBIS, a library service center based in Frankfurt, has evaluated the preferences of 22.000 library users. The results of the survey indicate a very high relevance of more descriptive content – beyond human classification and indexing. This kind of content improves normal OPACs and they are a must for new information retrieval solutions (discovery tools). The content generated at many libraries are distributed between the German speaking library service centers and via the open and international community named dandelon.com. The case of university library of Frankfurt and the German National Library is outlined.

Manfred Hauer holds a master degree in Sociology and Political Science and a diploma in Information Science. He is teaching in information science about human indexing and text mining. He is head of German based AGI – Information Management Consultants, a company he founded in 1983 and starting with information brokerage, software distribution and consultancy. In 2002 he started with a community of libraries producing tables of contents and doing text mining, in 2003 they implemented the sharing platform dandelon.com. For some libraries special solutions for parliaments, newspapers and websites were introduced.
