Abstract

Electronic information and print resources are the building blocks of information assurance in the whole range of scientific and social disciplines. A significant advantage of electronically processed information to various media, is their rapid transfer to the end user. The quality of the electronic information is also directly dependent on the quality of the input and the possibility to obtain full text original material. The use of electronic information resources through various media in the watched thematic area – the processing of wood raw material – significantly expands the availability of professional information. From the available electronic information sources the Information Centre of Pulp and Paper Research Institute (PPRI) mainly uses: – own, domestic and international databases; – specified electronic information materials sourced from reputable editors; and – digitally processed information the print sources of information from the PPRI library fund. The relevance of the information obtained from own database the user highly evaluates, mainly for immediate availability of the full text materials from the own fund. Inputs to foreign databases (e-distant sources of information) significantly extend the volume and quality of information available. The disadvantage is cumbersome access to the original material. Electronic information materials obtained directly from the reputable editors , by subscription or exchange, are thematically focused on precisely specified area and users of information their consider to be of the highest quality. Another extensive source of electronic information is obtained by digitizing of the print resources of the PPRI library. The fund of electronically processed information materials (books, journals, conference papers and i.) is continuously updated and supplemented scanning of selected professional materials and processing them into the PDF. Creating a local area network allows authorized employees through server searching necessary information directly on own personal computer. Server accesses information and also serves as the secure storage and data backup. The objective of creating a computer network system is processing, safely store and re-use of professional information in electronic form with the basic aim to meet the requirements of the end user.
