Abstract

The aim of the Partnership is to share and develop good practice in continuing professional development for biomedical scientists and from this to collaboratively develop an EU-toolkit for delivery of high quality continuing professional development activities provided by European hospital laboratories. As well as championing best practice, the project will provide distinct advantages for trainees, trainers and partner organisations by provision of the following objectives

  • identify core elements of good practice by the comparison of approaches to CPD used within partner organisations and countries
  • define European quality standards and criteria for accreditation and evaluation of local hospital CPD activities
  • develop a framework for inclusion of reflective practice in CPD activities
  • produce guidelines for European hospital laboratories on managing and organising quality CPD opportunities for laboratory staff
  • devise exemplar hospital laboratory CPD activities for provision on a new European hospitals CPD providers Community of Practice network.

Partners of the project want to engage European laboratory staff in this new initiative where the primary goal is to enhance the quality of provision of locally provided hospital CPD activities. The consortium intend to use the outcomes from the project to establish an EU hospitals CPD providers community of practice network, available to all EU countries, to provide long-term benefits to hospital laboratories and their staff well beyond the life of the project.

Author's professional CV

Josef grew up in Uherské Hradiště, the picturesque capital of the grape-rich region of Slovácko. The grape metaphor has been characteristic of his life ever since. Having planted a seemingly shallow root, he set forth his ever wandering tendrils into the big world of Moravia, spent his flowering years studying at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno, only to root deeper into all layers of life as a teacher at a local grammar school back in Hradiště. Faithful to the grape metaphor, he matures with age and offers his best working fruits so far at the Scientific Information Centre – Library at the Tomas Bata Regional Hospital Inc., Zlín. The presented project has been his maiden experience with EU Partnerships. His pivotal role is to nod his head when the team leader is speaking and to observe the deadlines of tasks given to him. As wine is inseparable from bread – try attending a wine tasting event on an empty stomach – he has been given his own daily loaf in his wife and children.
