Marketing Strategy of the Slovak National Library in Martin to Promote the Use of Electronic Information Resources

Abstract

The paper is divided into two parts. The first is devoted to developing a marketing strategy for libraries and the second is about the marketing strategy of the Slovak National Library in Martin focusing on electronic information resources. Planning and awareness of the need marketing strategy library is the first step to the library into a modern and important institution for the need for education and science. Because the library is not an institution to which users can go for books. It changes into a modern institution that offers a variety of quality services. The library must primarily be available online and must be active in the approach to the user. Electronic information resources are purchased, but used effectively? What we do and what else to do to be satisfied and also the library users? The library should mainly active use of print, electronic and communications media, to present their work and exhibit, it should be clear outdoor and internal name of a library, regularly produce publications and compile a summary of information materials and leaflets, participate in book fairs and hold an annual Week of Slovak Libraries and other collective promotional activities. We should not forget also to issue special publications on the history and current library. Finally, make themselves known on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. Slovak National Library in Martin is trying to use the marketing strategy of promoting their activities. Publishes the journal Knižnica, revue for librarianship, which regularly publishes information on electronic information resources, including on social networks, on its website, in workshops, conferences, or in the Week of Slovak Libraries presents its activities. About himself gives to know well in regional, nationwide and worldwide journals and regularly publishes journals and book publications.

Author's professional CV

Zuzana Prachárová graduated from the University of Matej Bell in Banska Bystrica Department of History. She worked in The Slovak National Library since 1996. She has worked in the lending and research services and she is head of Department of Digital services since 2006. She is the national coordinator of the license electronic information resources from EBSCO company that provides Slovak National Library (SNL) in Martin. She is coordinator of Project Information for innovation, national project SNL „Creating a Network with the Integration of scientific, academic and specialized libraries, including their modernization“ in which SNL makes electronic information resources from multiple vendors. It is responsible for marketing strategy for electronic information sources in the context of SNL.
