Abstract

One of the main missions of an academic library is to contribute to fulfilling the strategic objectives of the University. In the case of Tomas Bata University in Zlín those are, among others, research excellence and related quality of publications. And this is precisely the area where the TBU Library is extremely active.

The library provides support for publishing activities during their entire lifecycle. Without exaggeration we can say that the library contributes even to creation of publication outputs and works with them subsequently at the various stages from reporting them to the internal system for keeping publication output records, through making them accessible to the repository of publications, until their evaluation using traditional citation criteria or alternative metrics.

That means involving a number of information systems and services within the system of science and research, and of course a whole team of experts from the library, too. It is a long-term process that is constantly evolving and brings new demands on the processes and services provided.

This contribution, based on the real situation at the TBU Library, comprehensively describes the entire process of science and research support, including its individual components. It describes not only how the whole system works, but also how it fits into the processes of the library and how it’s integrated in the university context.

The contribution loosely follows and expands on the presentation given by Lukáš Budínský at the Inforum conference in 2015.
