Abstract

Personalized search has long been promised as an important next step for increasing relevancy of the search process. Web personalization is a strategy, a marketing tool and an art.

Personalization requires implicitly or explicitly collecting visitor information and leveraging that knowledge in your content delivery framework to manipulate what information you present to your users and how you present it. In arrticle we present the latest trends in personalized search engines and on we compare the present personalized search engines Google, Microsoft, A9, Yahoo a Eurekstar.

About the author

Soňa Makulová is Associate Professor at the Department of Library and Information Science at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University. She specializes in theoretical and methodological aspects of the implementation of the new information technology in library and information systems, information retrieval in global information networks, external information resources and information architecture. She is information specialist in the company ELET, the leading company in Slovakia in the field of electronic publishing, multimedia and WWW design.

She had written 6 monographs (Library Automation, Guide to Internet, Internet in the Management and Business of your Company, Guide to Internet or Internet from A to Z, Internet into your Packet, Searching and Researching in Internet), 2 textbooks (Databases, Introduction to Modern Information technology) and more than 140 articles and reviews published in Slovakia and abroad.

In years 2002 and 2004 she was responsible researcher for Slovakia in International EU project ACTeN - Anticipating Content Technology Needs: Business Monitor & Know How Transfer within Information Society Technologies Programme.

She is in the organising commitee and professional guarantee of many international conferences and the president of Slovak Multimedia Association SlovakPrix Multimedia. Since 2003 she is the member of the Grand World Jury for evaluating multimedia.

She lectured at international conferences and universities abroad in Czech republic, Denmark, Finnland, Greece, Hong Kongu, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Spain, Sweden, USA and Great Britain. http://www.fphil.uniba.sk/~kkvi/kto_je_kto/makulova.html
