Preserving Traditional and Digital Resources: the Same Aim but Different Approaches

Based on a comparison between general features of traditional documents and electronic resources, the main issues concerning long-term preservation the latter are pointed out (i. e. digital environment obsolescence, data and metadata formats, media longevity, software dependance, dynamic nature of electronic resources and authenticity). Digital preservation strategies are described (migration, emulation, technology preservation and reliance on hard copy). Rellevant information source on this topic are briefly presented.
