Abstract

In 2006, Charles University in Prague (CU) launched a pilot project for the development of a central digital repository to include individual sub-projects and activities in the areas of digitizing and accessing of digital documents at CU.

The CU central digital repository is conceived as a system of services the University offers to its community for the management, accessing, and dissemination of both born-digital and digitized documents Charles University and the members of its community (ie. students, faculties, teaching and research staff, external researchers, etc.) have created and will create.

Significant benefits of the digital repository include improved communication in the area of research and teaching activities and in the area of scientific publishing. The digital repository also helps raise the prestige of the University by making the achivements of its comunity more visible.
