Abstract

In time of forming the information environment, when IT affect all fields of social and business life, when information is conceived as the next source of company development (along with human and financial resources, raw materials and energy), when we talk about knowledge economy, there is a challenge and opportunity for the Information Centre (IC) to cope with. It will depend largely on information specialists, on their professional and creative potential, on their capabilities to manage these tasks. Mainly the conventional library and information services must be reviewed so that they can flexibly respond to the fast changing situations which, in fact, is the only constant, and must bring high value-added services acknowledged by the company top management as a valuable source for strategic decision-making.

The paper (contribution) is going to present the real development of IC in our company, as well as its current strategic importance in competitive fights.
