Abstract

At the turn of the 21st century, Tony Hey, now vice president of Microsoft Research Connections, predicted that the world will enter the era of Big Data and that the future lies not in how much data we generate, but how we will work with them to obtain relevant information for solving problems in real time.

What potential future use Big Data offers in scientific research? And how does it translate into everyday life? In this lecture, you can look „into the kitchen“ of Microsoft Research and learn more about the concept of Big Data and what new trends it triggers, such as viral search, more accurate prediction of outcome of ambiguous data, socio-psychometric analysis of Internet users, and more.
