Abstract

BioOne is the product of innovative collaboration between scientific societies, libraries, academe and the private sector. BioOne provides a unique aggregation of high-impact fulltext journals in the biological sciences. BioOne's titles are published by societies and non-commercial publishers and a majority were previously available only in printed form.

The organization is committed to a non-profit objective of disseminating important, scholarly information focused on the biological, ecological and environmental sciences by recovering costs while ensuring sustainability.

The service was launched two years ago and currently provides electronic access to 70 peer-reviewed journals from 53 publishers. This richly linked database currently contains the full text articles (in both PDF and HTML formats) of 70 journals from 55 publishers.

CSA (Cambridge Scientific Abstracts) and BioOne have entered a partnership where CSA has created a bibliographic database, indexing research papers in the journals available through BioOne's fulltext service. Access to the BioOne bibliographic database is available on CSA's Internet Database Service IDS and it offers subscribers the opportunity to use CSA's thesaurus seraching with Descriptors, Identifiers and other controlled vocabulary qualifiers and filters. Search results rom the BioOne Abstracts and Indexes Database contain direct links to the corresponding fulltext articles in the BioOne database.

Additional Linking is provided to a wide selection of sources including PubMed, Medline, CrossRef, NBII, JSTOR, BIOSIS and to the webbase OPAC of a subscribing institution.
