Abstract

The contribution describes activity of the project e:citace. The project is realized at the Division of Information and Library Studies of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University (DILS). The main objective of this project is to increase awareness of citations, develop a debate on the ethics problems of citations and finally point out the advantages of reference management systems in the process of creating academic works. The project partners are DILS, the project NAKLIV (National Cluster of Information Literacy) and the portal Citace.com. The main part of the paper describes the results of research of using citation styles at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. The research was divided into two parts. In both parts of the research the quantitative methods were used. In the first part, an online survey form was sent to all students of the Faculty of Arts to determine what citation styles they use. In the second part of the research, the authors focused on the content analysis of the citation styles used in theses at Faculty of Arts. The researchers analyzed 465 theses from 102 subjects taught at the Faculty of Arts. The purpose of the research was to identify the target group and define the main project activities. The main activities of the project e:citation will be also presented in the contribution, e.g. f. ex.: workshops for students and librarians, the e-learning course for MU students and other non-traditional training methods. Part of the paper will focus on new features on the portal Citace.com.

Vanda Gřešáková graduated at bachelor degree of Information and Library studies at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno. At present time she is studying the same field at master degree, the follow-up study. She is co-author of the project e:Citace, which is part of subject called Application seminars. This project is aimed to the issues related to citations and quotations. She also works at the Central Library of the Faculty of Social Studies at the Masaryk University.
