Abstract

After three years of implementation of NISPEZ project (National Information System promoting Research and Development in Slovakia – Access to Electronic Information Resources (hereinafter EIR), the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (SC STI) – as the project solver – has been successful in obtaining experience with solving the centralized access to EIR at national level. This experience is a valuable source for interesting and inspiring ideas and challenges in this field.

The main part of the paper is focused on evaluation of the final solution of the centralized access to EIR, bringing up the common evaluation of EIR application, particularly on its importance and further possibilities for the subsequent optimization of all processes running in the field of information support to science and research development based on accessing the EIR.

The optimized assessment of EIR portfolio, composition of user institutions as well as of all followed processes, creates optimum conditions not only for the effective EIR application but having the direct and evident impact on support to science and research development in Slovakia simultaneously also as an important tool and basis for strategic decisions concerning purchase of EIR for science and research development in Slovakia.
