Abstract

The basics of archiving original electronic journals (Born Digital) in Slovakia were laid in 2015 during the realization of the project – Digital Resources – Web harvesting and E-Born Content Archiving.

The aim of the project is, in addition to web archiving, the development of e-journals archiving methods and workflows, which is current in the context of consideration of the amendment to the Legal Deposit Act. The Act does not cover these types of documents, but their share in the publishing spectrum is growing significantly. The policy of collecting the e-Born titles is based on the ISSN identification, which is a main criterion for inclusion in the archive. The source of titles for archiving is the National ISSN Database. Typology of electronic journals is examined for archiving purposes in cooperation with the ISSN National Centre.

Titles of e-journals have diverse structure and various publication formats. This explains the way they are stored in the archive. E-journals are archived in the Module for Managing Applications, Contracts and Archived Electronic Publications, which is a part of the Digital Resources Information System (DIP e-Born). E-Born curator performs the message via an internal portal. E-journals are stored in the e-Born Archive. Methodology of work with e-journals designed for archiving is developed simultaneously with the practice. This includes workflows of titles available under CC licenses and titles for which license agreements are required.

The Public Portal of DIP E-Born serves to make titles available and to communicate with publishers and the professional community. The system supports designing new titles and self-service for publishers. In the presentation, we provide an overview of links and connections between the E-Born Archive and the National ISSN Database, which include, in particular, the creation of e-Born titles and the possibility to search the archived titles in the ISSN National Databas
