Abstrakt:

The Bavarian State Library in Munich is one of the leading research libraries comprising one of the largest collections of rare manuscripts, old printings, incunabula and maps in the world. Till today, more than 23.600 volumes have been digitised, published online by the library’s Digitisation Centre and stored in archival systems. The number of digitised books hosted by the Bavarian State Library will increase rapidly within the next years since several important new projects have been started in 2007: More than one million books out of the holdings of the library will be scanned during the cooperation with Google. They will be hosted inside Google Books as well as inside the Digital Collections of the Bavarian State Library for free access. Apart from that, the Digitisation Centre of the library started digitisation with scan robot technology. These projects will lead to a daily amount of more than 300.000 images a day to be processed, ingested, published on the Web and stored in an archival system. To cope with this challenge the Bavarian State Library had set up a scalable infrastructure capable to process and provide large scale digital collections.

Since 2003 staff member of the Digital Library Department of the Bavarian State Library. Involved in the organisation of the digitisation workflow as well in the build-up of a long-term preservation infrastructure for the Bavarian State Library.
